What a Dietitian Buys on Amazon

The appeal of Amazon is convenience, which is why I love to find products that I routinely recommend to my clients available on the site. It doesn’t matter where they live or where they do their shopping, they can still have access to brands and products that I think will really help them solidify healthy habits and find symptom relief.

So, this Amazon Prime Day, I’ve rounded up my go-to product recommendations that are available on the site. While you’re snagging deals, toss a few of these into your cart to see if they’ll help you in your health goals:

Hydration Helpers

Despite its importance in health and nutrition, the available research for determining requirements for water or fluid intake is limited compared to most other nutrients. For this reason, the commonly accepted recommendation of eight, 8-ounce glasses of water a day is what I recommend to most of my clients, and I remind them that they will also take in water from fruits, vegetables and other beverages (among other things they consume):

  • Finding a water bottle that truly fits your needs is the first step toward drinking more water each day. I recently wrote about five water bottles I love that fit a variety of needs and will definitely get you drinking more water in no time!

  • To help with hydration, I highly recommend these sugar-free, crystallized citrus packets from True Citrus. They are easy to take on the go and seriously taste like you just squeezed a piece of fruit into your drink.

Before a trip, I can grab so many of my favorites for travel from Amazon

Eats and Treats

I have my go-to’s at every grocery chain, but there are some things I haven’t been able to find in stores regularly or find my myself going out of my way to get them at a place I don’t usually shop. The convenience of Amazon certainly helps with that:

  • Bare veggie chips are a great alternative to your standard potato chips because they are minimally processed and MUCH higher in fiber. I’m not able to find them in the stores I shop at regularly, so I go for the variety pack on Amazon to make sure I have ‘em on hand.

  • Parmesan or cheddar cheese crisps are a great option for non-perishable protein on the go. I often pick these up at the airport, but they are just as handy to have at home.

  • Bob’s Red Mill is my go to brand for all types of flours and other nutritional boosters and baking aids. For clients that avoid or are sensitive to wheat, I regularly recommend their 1-to-1 gluten-free baking flour, gluten-free pizza dough and gluten-free pancake mix, but I also love using their wheat bran in my blueberry bran muffins to boost the fiber (I also buy their oat bran and oat flour when making these muffins gluten-free)! Their oatmeal cups are a client favorite for breakfast on the go, and I like that their original flavor has 7 g of fiber with no added sugar!

Gear to Support the Mind-Gut Connection

  • I always have my Dr. Bronner’s lavender hand sanitizer in my purse, work bag or travel bag for a quick burst of calming aromatherapy when I need it. It’s an added bonus that it also sanitizes your hands.

  • I also love and often recommend this essential oil diffuser and NOW essential oils to clients that are working on stress management as part of their symptom management.

Digestive Aids and Supplements

  • I always recommend clients look for fiber-rich foods to fill up their diet, but fiber supplements can be a good option when you are traveling or need a little more than your dietary restrictions allow. I like Regular Girl because you can’t taste it AT ALL when mixed into water– plus, it forces you to drink some water ;) I love the convenience of the stick packs, but they do sell it in larger quantities.

  • I love crystallized ginger when nausea and indigestion crop up. For me, nothing works faster than a sweet and spicy piece of ginger, and I’m less likely to over consume than with some of the other acid blockers on the market.
